PAST SIMPLE- PAST CONTINOUS


PAST SIMPLE

[VERB+ed] or irregular verbs

Use the Simple Past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past. Sometimes, the speaker may not actually mention the specific time, but they do have one specific time in mind.

EXAMPLE


  • You called Debbie.
  • Did you call Debbie?
  • You did not call Debbie.

  • I played                           You played                   ( I, She,we,they,he )
  • Did I play?                       Did you play?
  • I did not play                   You did not play          ( Did not )


PAST CONTINUOUS


We usually use the Past Continuous to talk about activities that lasted for some time in the past. The actions can be interruped by something or can be happening at the same time.

[was/were + present participle]

I was playing       
Was I playing?
I was not playing             

EXAMPLE

 When the phone rang, she was writing a the book .

She was working  on the office when he arrived.

When he won the game, I was cooking.

She was working on her homework while I was preparing the chicken.




WAS AND WERE  (lesson )

EXAMPLES

I was blonde two years ago

Bogota was colder in the past

you were in melgar last years

I was in Medellin one years ago

They weren't in class today
